Two certificates. Two universities. One student journey.

Upon graduation, students will receive 2 Degree Certificates & Transcripts: 1 from APU, Malaysia and 1 from DMU, UK. Both degrees are recognised locally & internationally.

The full numbers, and how they compare

The APU bar is the dual-award fee (GBP 450 per level) on top of APU's own tuition of RM 108,500 for a three-year degree. The Leicester bar is DMU's published international tuition alone, excluding accommodation and living costs. This compares the award, not the whole experience.

An additional fee of GBP 450 per level is payable if you opt for the Dual Degree Award scheme with De Montfort University, UK. This is payable upon commencement of study. Non-payment at commencement will result in non-registration with De Montfort University for the Dual Awards. Payment can be made in GBP cash or USD/RM equivalent at the prevailing exchange rate available at the APU cashier.

At the 2023 graduation, 1,252 APU students graduated and 229 of them also received a De Montfort University degree, handed over on stage by DMU's own Deputy Vice-Chancellor. The cohort came from 47 countries.

APU's Fee Guide states the DMU dual degree scheme does not apply to the BSc (Hons) in Hospitality and Tourism. Those degrees carry a separate dual award with HTMi Switzerland instead. Three further business specialisms (Business Management with AI & Business Analytics, with Business Economics, and International Business Management with Supply Chain Management) do not show the dual degree block on their APU course pages — ask us and we will confirm the current position with APU in writing.

The one-offs, and the monthly

Stage 1 — on accepting your offerRM 3,400: Covers EMGS visa processing, APU application & processing, airport assistance and transfer on first arrival. Non-refundable once the offer is accepted. APU's application-procedures page quotes RM 3,600 for this stage — confirm the current figure at offer stage.
Stage 2 — on student pass approvalRM 2,000: Post-arrival processing, EMGS medical check-up, one year of medical insurance, i-Kad, eVAL and student pass fees for one year.
International student registration & administrationRM 5,000: Includes the student ID card for the duration of the course.
Library deposit + personal bondRM 500 + RM 1,000: Both refundable on completion of studies. Engineering students pay an additional refundable RM 500 laboratory deposit.

Merit awards are fee rebates on course/tuition fees only, awarded on a first come, first served basis, renewable each year on a minimum CGPA of 2.50. APU states the awards do not cover registration, accommodation, deposits or partner university fees — so the DMU dual award fee is not discounted. Applications close 31 August 2026.

From application to lecture hall.

Apply 6–8 weeks before the intake
APU's own recommendation. You can apply on forecast results and receive a conditional offer.
Offer in 2–3 working days
APU states results normally arrive within 2–3 working days of receiving complete documents.
Student pass in 3–4 weeks
APU states the visa process normally takes 3–4 weeks. Your passport must be valid for at least 24 months from the intake date.
Opt into the dual degree at commencement
The GBP 450 per level is payable at the start of study. Miss it and you are not registered with DMU for the dual award.

English requirement: IELTS 5.0, PTE 47 or MUET Band 3.5 on APU's BSc (Hons) Computer Science page. Requirements vary by programme — check the exact course page or ask us.

The hard questions

Ask the things you should be asking.

Is this a real De Montfort degree?

Yes — De Montfort issues its own degree certificate and transcript in your name, alongside APU's, under an approved collaboration in accordance with the QAA UK Quality Code, and lists these programmes on its own Collaborative Register 2025-26 as active dual awards. What we will not tell you is that it is identical to studying in Leicester: you are taught at APU in Kuala Lumpur, by APU, on a Malaysian campus. It is a De Montfort award earned in Malaysia, and that is exactly how you should present it.

What exactly does the GBP 450 buy?

It is the additional fee per degree level for the dual award scheme with De Montfort, payable at the commencement of study. APU is explicit that non-payment at commencement means you are not registered with De Montfort for the dual award. It can be paid in GBP cash or the USD/RM equivalent at the rate available at the APU cashier.

Is every programme included?

APU's Fee Guide states the DMU dual degree scheme does not apply to the BSc (Hons) in Hospitality and Tourism. Those degrees carry a separate dual award with HTMi Switzerland instead. Can I finish the degree in the UK?

APU's dual degree page offers the option to 'complete your dual degree in UK', and APU students attended De Montfort's Summer School in Leicester in 2025. The current terms shift by programme and year — message us and we will confirm them in writing before you plan around it.

Does the scholarship cover the De Montfort fee?

No. APU's merit award conditions state the awards apply to course and tuition fees only, and explicitly exclude registration, accommodation, deposits and partner university fees — which is what the DMU fee is. The tuition discount itself runs up to 30% depending on your results.

When do I need to apply?

APU recommends applying 6–8 weeks before the intake, states that a decision normally arrives within 2–3 working days of complete documents, and that the visa process takes 3–4 weeks. The next Degree Level 1 intakes are 28 September and 24 November 2026.

Take both degrees. The merit awards go in the order applications land.
